We have over 30 children who regularly attend the various Discoverers groups, many of whom are also members of the junior choir. Occasional visitors are also welcomed. Each group follows the same programme of Bible stories, with activities tailored appropriately to each age group. Our sessions are lively and sociable to enable children to develop and share their Christian faith in a positive and enjoyable way.
We meet during the first half of the Parish Eucharist on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays each month and rejoin our families / choir in church for the rest of the service. The children often participate in the Service of the Word on the 1st Sunday each month by singing, playing music, reading and helping to deliver the message of the day.
Each week the Discoverers donate money to sponsor a child through the Action Aid charity. Our sponsored child is a four-year-old girl called Rahinatu, she lives in Ghana. The money we send helps to improve the quality of life for her family and their local community.
The children are involved in lots of other activities throughout the year including an Easter egg hunt, Christmas crib service, and an annual outing or party.
New members are always welcomed; whether it is on a regular or occasional basis and there is no need to book, just turn up. If you would like to find out more, or if you would be interested in helping, please contact one of the Discoverers leaders.
Youth
Youth events such as film nights are arranged during the year in both the Church and the church rooms. These are intended to attract a wide range of youngsters from Ashwell and the surrounding villages; they are not exclusively for members of our church.
