Reader in Training - Mark Eaton |
The work of the Reader
In Post-Reformation times, permission was given to Priests to appoint Readers to assist the Clergy at the Altar as well as a wide variety of ministries such as pastoral care for the sick and visiting them, at home and in hospital. Readers can also conduct funerals and non-eucharistic services. Full training is offered by the Diocese and the course takes approximately two years. There is almost as many women as men in the office of Reader. On completion Readers are licensed by the Bishop.
Mark Eaton is currently training for the Reader Ministry.
